So what do you love to do at the gym?
Do you do classes?
Or do you just use the gym?
Well, personally I make the most of my full membership! My 4 yr old daughter uses the creche and absolutely loves it as I do also. I use the gym and make the most of the awesome classes they have going on there.
As I’m slowly and gradually getting older I cant do as much of the high impact classes that I once was able to do when I was younger, as much as I’d love to. Not that I’m too old now or anything lol, I have just decided to listen to my body more and take care of it in a much more gentle way. With a back injury in the past that has caused arthritis in my spine, it is quite sore most of the time.
I love doing the gym classes as it mixes it up with doing weights and cardio and preventing boredom which a lot of people struggle with.
So rather than just quitting and neglecting my fitness which was never an option I have just changed what I do at the gym. There are always options for us whether were, old, young, injured, broken, healthy, stiff, flexible or in pain, we can always do something that suits our specific needs.
I now absolutely love my classes, my routines and it all just works. So I thought I would share a few of my favorite classes with you that I do each week and get just as much benefit if not more as I would from the higher impact classes such as boxing, Tabata and Body Combat.
Barre Fit- This is a class I have only recently discovered and is quite new to my gym. It is one of the hardest classes I’ve ever done and also one of the most enjoyable.
It is a class for all ages as most of the people in the class are over 50 but younger ones also attend.
Barre fit is designed to tone the whole body with the ballet barre incorporated. It also had aspects of pilates and yoga, focus on breath, strength, and stretch. The small movements of the isolated muscle groups cause that awesome burn feeling we love so much when we know we’re working hard. You won’t be able to walk out of there the first time but I guarantee you’ll be back. Enjoy.
Body Balance- I love love love this class! This class always makes me feel like I’m flying and flowing. It is another low impact class suitable for all sexes and ages.
It is also a yoga-based class which enhances elements of pilates and tai-chi creating not only a stronger, more flexible body but also a clearer, healthier mind. The tranquil sounds of the music take you to another place where it’s just you and your body connecting with your spirit. You may even be able to fly out of the room lol. Enjoy.
Yoga- I think its safe to say, we all know what yoga is, but for those who may not, here’s a short rundown. Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘connection’. Yoga is the practice of being conscious of our connection with our mind and body, including controlled breathing, basic meditation and specific body poses and postures.
This is also another great class for low impact, strengthening training. It is great for the inner core which is very important in many aspects of our lives, especially for women. All ages can also participate in these classes as there are different levels to suit the individual’s needs and abilities.
So there you go, 3 of my favs. I hope I have encouraged you to hit the gym if you haven’t already. The gym doesn’t have to be mundane and boring, there are always plenty of different options.
Most gyms also do outdoor boot camps on the oval or down the beach which is also a great idea. Not only does it get you out in the fresh air it is also very social and a great way to meet new friends.
So I wish you happy training. Your body is your temple, take care of it and it will take care of you.
Be Kind, Be Free, Be You!
