Do you have issues with self-esteem, self-worth, self-image, self-confidence, self-importance or self-respect? 

 Most of us would most likely have had issues with one or many of these at one time or another in their lives. That evil voice in our head that pops up everytime were confronted with a challenge, or making decisions.

The ego is what we perceive our identity to be, which is false. Beliefs we have about ourselves, our personalities, talents, abilities etc is the structure of our ego, which plays a great role in creating emotional drama in our lives.

The easiest way to spot the ego is by the trail of emotional reactions it leaves behind. When feeling anger toward a loved one and the need to be right, a feeling of insecurity, feelings of jealousy that are unnecessary, feelings of never being good enough for a certain person or people, trying to be something your not as to impress others. Whatever it may be, we all have different egos making it difficult to define as we all have different beliefs that we acquire throughout our lives.

 The ego is what keeps you locked away in your own little world, separated from the present moment. Most of us are too busy worrying about future events that haven’t even happened yet. They’re not real and probably never will be. We interpret things in our own heads, causing anxiety and stress over what we will never have control over.

Finding the tools to help move past the ego is the first step, once you have them you can start putting them into practice and living your life to the fullest and being true to yourself. I am definitely still working on myself and will be for the rest of my life, so I thought I would share with you a few things that I am working on to banish the ego from within, for good.

1. Yoga- Yoga is both a state of connection and a body of techniques that allows us to connect with anything. Yoga is a process of becoming more aware of who we are. The techniques facilitate balance and health and unfold our dormant potential. Yoga is a process of self-discovery which leads us to self-mastery and self-realization. It teaches us to slow our breath, breath deeply, which slows our heart rate, in turn, focusing our mind to help developmental peace and deep insight.


2. Let go of control- We are not our egos, we are not our jobs, we are not our material possessions, and we are not our achievements. Once you let your ego control your life, you will never be happy or relaxed because as soon as you lose one of those things that you identify with, the rest will fall like dominos and you will lose your happiness. We would all love to be happy all of the time but its just not possible, so don’t sweat the small stuff, don’t stress over what you cant control and try to always be consciously in the present moment. Doing these things will create more happiness and less of the negative.

3. Control your thoughts, Don’t let your thoughts control you- Your mind is hyperactive, as most of your thinking is compulsive, recurring and pointless. The same thoughts come again and again and they trigger the same reactive thoughts and emotions, based on the conditioning. Try to recognize these thoughts and their dysfunction, and watch them go. You will learn to be aware and non-reactive which can be very powerful. It is definitely easier said than done but with practice anything is possible.
