Getting started with an online business can be slightly overwhelming and a little scary.
It’s all about taking that first step and then putting one foot in front of the other, just as a baby does as it’s learning to walk.
When the baby falls down it doesn’t say, “This is too hard” and then gives up.
It keeps trying and persevering with great determination, it gets up again and again and again until its walking, running, leaping and before you know it, climbing mountains.
This applies to all of us online marketers, we fail, we fall, we fail, we fall but we keep on going because until we’re climbing those mountains we never give up.
Step 1- Create a Plan!
Creating a business plan is essential for your online success.
A plan will help you stay on track and keep you guided in the right direction to help prevent a feeling of overwhelm.
Define who your target market is
- Are they male or female or both?
- Are they married?
- How old are they?
- Do they have kids?
- Where do they hang out?
- What are their interests?
- How much money do they make?
- What do they do for a living?
Once you have narrowed down who you are going to target it will be
easier to develop your sales strategy.
Keep it short and simple in a way you can easily follow and understand.
A business plan doesn’t need to be 100 pages long and over-complicated.
Step 2- Set Goals!
- Set goals that are aligned with your values.
- What is it you want to achieve in a specific amount of time?
- Make sure they are measurable and realistic.
- Keep track of your goals and view them often.
- Prioritize a certain amount of time to your goals daily.
- Once you have reached a goal, set new ones.
We all have dreams and goals at some stage in our lives.
Some are so minuscule and easy to achieve in just one day and some are beyond our wildest dreams that we believe they can only happen to the rich and famous.
Well, those rich and famous people were once just like you and I. They had big dreams that they never gave up on, they achieved them.
Sometimes we may take one step forward and two steps back, and that is ok. Review your goals, assess what you have been doing and make a few tweaks.
Every goal reached whether big or small gives us a sense of accomplishment and self-satisfaction creating feelings of our worthiness and fulfillment.
Step 3- Build meaningful and genuine relationships with potential customers!
And all potential customers should be treated with kindness and respect as they could possibly become lifelong customers and even friends.
So always be authentic and don’t try to be something you’re not because most people can usually tell when you’re not being genuine or just faking it.
Being a person of honesty and high integrity, you’re customers are more likely to recommend your products or services to family and friends, and in turn, expanding your reach of customers and possible leads.
Step 4- Start a Blog!
Starting your own blog allows you to share your knowledge, products, and services with your followers.
Creating high-quality content will also help you to grow your following.
It is also a great way to connect with people directly and for them to connect with you.
It’s a great way to share your content which you can regularly keep up to date and change with the times.
Blogging sets you up as an authority figure who has a solution for people’s problems.
Step 5- Get social on Social Media!
Who isn’t on some kind of social media platform these days? Figure out which platform your people are hanging out on and focus on that.
The more you like, comment and share on other people’s posts the more likely you are of being seen.
– Be consistent and post daily.
– Don’t continuously spam your product or service.
– People are there to be social, not sold to.
– Show people who you are.
– Share inspirational and motivational quotes.
– Create valuable content.
– Share lifestyle photos.
– Always be positive.
– Create emotion such as humor, cuteness, awe or love.
– Focus on posting high-quality relevant content.
Facebook has said that the average user is subjected to 1,500 stories per day. To increase engagement the newsfeed only displays around 300 of them. These are the ones that are most relevant to the user.
Step 6- Email Marketing!
Growing your email list is a great low-cost method of getting your voice out to your targeted audience.
It is essential to attract the right audience to your website as they are your potential customers and the ones more likely to sign up to your list.
If your selling golf equipment it is pointless marketing to people who are into skincare, dogs or keto as those people may not be into golf, so be sure to be specific when targeting your audience.
Once you have people signed up to your list be sure to share compelling, useful and relevant content that they are going to be excited about.
Step 7- Video Tutorial!
Creating valuable tutorials for your viewers on Youtube is a great resource for marketing your business.
Even if you’re still a little shy to get your face out there you can just screen share and create a slide show as you talk your way through it. This is a great place to start to build your confidence.
It’s also a great way to display and demonstrate your products or services.
You can also add your link in the description below which can take your viewers to the relevant content on your website.
The more you do, the better you will get, so Practice, practice, practice.
There is no need for a lot of fancy equipment either, you can easily video on your phone if it has a decent camera, and you can pick up a cheap microphone for better sound.
Step 8- Enjoy the process!
Creating the life of our dreams isn’t always going to be easy. There are going to be times when you will feel overwhelmed, confused, helpless or frustrated, this is all part of the process.
And at times you will more than likely feel like giving up, ( I know I have) BUT, I haven’t.
It is not an option when you look at your “WHY” and what made you want to start your own online business in the first place.
Just imagine where you will be in a year from now and how much you will have accomplished.
If you give up…………. You will never know!
